WORKOUT WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY

Interacting with friends and family is important for our social wellbeing. There are movie nights and cocktail hours - so how about a Group Workout under the expert guidance of one of our teachers using Zoom.

We can set you up with a time and day that suits your and your besties. We could even leave the mics on so you can moan and groan together! Email Laura@allpointspilates.com for more information.

Tips for working out at home alone or online

There are a few things to think about when setting up your home practice area - here’s a few things we’ve learned.

  • Use a yoga mat whenever possible. Carpet, rugs and wooden floors can be very slippy. If a mat is not an option try some ToeSox or yoga socks.

  • Wear your usual workout clothing. It’s easier to move and will be more familiar to your body.

  • Have space around your mat - you don’t want to stub your toe on a chair leg!

  • Find alternatives to the usual props - a belt or tie can replace a yoga strap. Blankets or towels can fold into bolsters. A stack of thick books can replace yoga blocks (but only sometimes!). An armless chair or a footstool can be handy. Tin cans or unopened jugs of water can act as weights.

  • A good wi-fi connection is very important. If your connection is tricky during a class, then stop your video streaming. The teacher will see your name and you’ll still see the teacher.

  • Think about using a bluetooth (wireless) headset or earbuds in class. This will improve your sound reception and keep from disturbing your housemates.

  • Find a good location for the screen that you’ll be watching - but be mindful of looking too much. Your teacher will talk you through the moves, but remember there will be other students online and she won’t be able to see you clearly. Listen to the instructions and look as little as possible.

  • Once you’ve joined a class you’ll be asked to mute your mic. If you forget, the teacher can mute everyone - that way nobody will hear you groan.

  • Pets can make a nice distraction and make us laugh - if they’re in the room with you - be prepared - same goes for toddlers too.

  • Log in 5-10 minutes ahead of time. It’s helpful for the teacher and gives you time to say hello, get updates and solve any connection issues.

  • If your connection is dropped, you can log back in again during the class. The teacher may not notice immediately, so make sure you’re muted.
